I believe the purpose of life is to be happy and that is an inside job, it has to do with attitude.
Last year my soul mate of 40 years passed on. And as much as I hate the idea of the dating game, I feel a void that cries out to be filled. I expect it will be a slow process. One based on an attitude of “no demands and no expectations.” To me the important thing is that no one suffers or gets hurt.
I don’t’ fish or hunt because I’d feel sorry for the animals. I don’t even kill bugs around the house. I move them instead. Is not all life sacred?
I am not one for a lot of outdoor activities, because I’m a more contemplative person. One who likes to sit and wonder about the bigger questions in life.
I’d rather take slow walks, hand in hand, with my beloved, than go dancing or partying.
I’d rather sit on the front porch and watch the grass grow, and listen to the talk of nature than drive to the big city, and see the sights, and sounds, and say I’ve been there. I guess I’m a bite of a home body. I enjoy reading, writing, and watching a good movie, even a chick flick now and then.
I’ve spent most of my life on spiritual quests of one sort or another. I follow the Eastern traditions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and Zen. They all have one thing in common, and that is to seek the direct experience of Reality itself here and now. It’s a wordless realization of who we are, where we are, and what the nature of reality is. They don’t follow a belief systems based on the words of others, or the writings found in ancient scriptures. It’s a more personal and spontaneous existence.
I meditate and listen to music on a daily basis. Music is my first love. Beyond that I work to expand my consciousness in any way I can. For me, true happiness and peace of mind is based on being aware of what is happening in each and every moment and then going with that flow, so to speak. It’s called being Present and Aware of the Now moment, which is actually the only moment there is, and being open to all possibilities.
I’ve learned how harmful the judging mind can be and so when meeting others, in any format, I try to remain unbiased. This allows the universe to unfold more naturally. I feel it’s not so much “what” you do as “who” does it. So for me, the way to do is to be. In other words, I try to be honest and myself.
That is also what I would look for in another.
